Satirist Richard Pryor: Black comedy and politics
Richard Pryor (1940-2005) was a black stand-up comedian who revolutionized the art of comedy. Known for his frank style, use of profanity, and the review without the fear of racism, Pryor was also a humorist political and stand-up comedian.
Pryor comic style was undoubtedly influenced by their surroundings Small. Born in the segregation of Peoria, Illinois, and grew in her grandmother's brothel. His mother was a prostitute and his father was a pimp. When I was ten, the mother has abandoned Pryor, and was raised by his grandmother, who often beat her. 14 expelled from school, Pryor soon entered the army, where he was imprisoned for assaulting a soldier of the white racists.
When I was 22 years Pryor moved to New York and began stand-up comedy in clubs. In these early days of his career, he has modeled his style after the Bill Cosby, who try to please his predominantly white audience and avoid controversial issues. But it was Pryor Cosby and became increasingly concerned about the need to comply with its audiences and the general public to repress his true identity. Although successful and becomes popular, he was tortured and used drugs to excess.
In 1967, Pryor was set to perform at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, where he had a revelation. He looked at the crowd, exclaimed: "What the f * ck am I doing here? "And left the scene. Later, the style Pryor began to change into something more nervous and began to use profanity in his sketches.
In 1969, Pryor went to Berkeley, California, the heart of culture-cons. He learned about Malcolm X and Black Nationalism movement leaders revolutionaries meet Ismael Reed, P. Cecil Brown and Huey Newton, and leaders of the Black Panther Party. In this context, Pryor gained a new perspective on his life and sense of comedy work.
From there, return Pryor stand-up shows a change of style. Avoid using black stereotypes in their drawings, but racism has become their main objective. He attacked the humiliation and marginalization that black experience in America and white characters imitated insensitive. He was not afraid profanity, talk about uncomfortable issues, or painful comedy of real life experiences. He often used his personal life as material for their performance standing. He turned their own experiences with sex, the enforcement of drug abuse, and even one incident in which he set on fire after freebasing cocaine in hilarious comedy. Pryor criticism without fear of racism in American society and its willingness to talk about his own humiliation transformed the art of stand-up comedy for black and white actors as well.

Craps (After Hours) (1971)
Black That's Crazy (1974)
