You've probably played the Kevin Bacon game at a certain time of life. Name of person and an actor must connect the actor Kevin Bacon back through other actors who have worked together. The theory is that we are all connected by six degrees separation or less. I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows you.
Scientists are now looking at social networks in the world of health behavior. An old Russian proverb says: "Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are." In addition, the gurus of personal development demand that we make an average of five people you spend time with the majority. Now reports in the Journal of American Medical Association, JAMA suggests this may be true. Two new studies show that social networks have an important influence on the risks of smoking and obesity.
The Both studies followed a cohort of 12,067 people for 32 years as part of an effort called the Framingham Heart Study. Obesity in the report, researchers found that a person has risen 57% chance of becoming obese if his friends filled, probability of 40% if a sibling became obese, and 37% that their husbands are packed in pounds.
The report of smoke, researchers have found similar things. If your spouse started the habit, your chances of kicking too increase to 67%. If your brother or sister quit, your chances of quitting smoking has increased 45% and if a friend or colleague to let you increase your chances about 35%. Both studies were controlled by factors such as genetics and geographic area and found that social networks have always had a great effect.
And next, is Interestingly, your spouse has the greatest effect on their smoking habit, but the least impact on your waistline. Perhaps it is easier to sneak Ho-Ho in the snack drawer they get out of a coffin nail.
These associations can not be too surprising. People who hang out with us every system. But maybe you should take a little more seriously if you are really willing to change their state of health. If you really need to lose weight, stop smoking, increase physical activity level, or spend less time watching days of our lives, maybe you should find some people to hang that have been in this field. Your chances of success are significantly limited or enhanced by the people who decide to spend most of the time. It can be difficult to get away from some people. But again, others may be the excuse you need. As Jim Rohn says, "Some people, you can spend an hour with, but not daily. Some of them can spend a day with, but not a week. Some of them, you can spend a week with, but one year. "
